PURPOSE:To prevent printing without paper in a printer with an inserter by inspecting a paper immediately before the printing following the instruction of the printing in addition to inspection of the state thereof after the shifting of the line to allow identification of an operator's withdrawal of the paper. CONSTITUTION:When a paper 1 is inserted into an inserter 10, it is automatically sucked and the initial position thereof is set as indicated by the arrow 5 on a platen 2 with a paper end detection sensor 3 and a line shift position sensor 4 provided on a passage. Then, one line is printed according to input information and shifted. After the line shifting, the presence of the paper 1 is checked for with the paper end detection sensor 3. The sensor checks to see if paper presents thereon 3 immediately before the start of printing after the instruction of printing. When the inspection after the line shifting indicates the presence of paper and that immediately before the printing the presence of no paper 1, with a judgement that an operator withdraws the paper 1, an alarm sounds. |
