In a method and a machine for cleaning contaminated surfaces, in particular hard courts, by means of cleaning fluid released through nozzles, the fluid is sprayed against the surface to be cleaned and the fluid thrown back together with the dirt absorbed by the fluid is collected, removed, cleaned and returned into the fluid cycle. In this arrangement, the cleaning fluid and dirt are collected via a collecting tank which is arranged in the direction of travel upstream of the nozzles and has an inlet located in the immediate vicinity of the ground so that as much cleaning fluid as possible is taken up and recovered. <IMAGE>
