<p>PURPOSE:To improve the precision of visual field setting of a scanning means which scans specific character information, by detecting specific information on an object to be read, and using this detected result as control information to control visual field setting. CONSTITUTION:When a post P is carried, the first scanning part 11 outputs a pattern signal. A control number setting part 13 outputs a control number by this pattern signal output. A pattern processing part 12 outputs a length signal and a height signal. A write controlling part 14 relates the control number, the length signal, and the height signal to one another and stores them in a processing result storage device 15. When the first post P reaches the second scanning part 18, control number 1 is set in a control number setting part 19 and is given to a read controlling part 20. The controlling part 20 reads out a length signal and a height signal coinciding with this control number from the device 15 and outputs them to a pattern processing part 21. The processing part 21 sets a visual field range on a basis of these signals. This visual field range is scanned optically to output the pattern signal, and this signal is stored in a processing result storage device 23. A character recognizing part 30 recognizes characters on a basis of this pattern signal.</p> |
