<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of reject and erroneous read, by storing a read result of eaci quantizing part and correcting the threshold level of each quantizing part in accordance with the read rate of each quantizing part for plural characters. CONSTITUTION:Quantizing parts 3-5 quantize the read signal of a post 1 with different threshold levels, and recognizing parts 6-8 output a character code of a character pattern, which resembles most the quantized pattern of every character, as recognition result. If two or more same character codes are obtained, a discriminating part 9 outputs this code as the read result; but in other cases, a reject code is outputted. A number of rejects of the post number is outputted to a correcting part 11 from a storage part 10 where recognition results are stored. The correcting part 11 corrects values of registers of quantizing parts 3-5 in accordance with the number of rejects by one stage. Thus threshold levels of quantizing parts 3-5 are corrected by recognition results of the preceding character, and the read signal is quantized hereafter with threshold levels most suitable for the character density.</p> |
