A steering-column lock for motor vehicles possesses a control or retaining lever which, when a key-actuated lock cylinder is rotated, can be brought into locking engagement with a bolt, in order to keep this out of engagement with a steering shaft. When the key-actuated cylinder is rotated in reverse and the key withdrawn, the retaining lever is retracted, in order to release the locking engagement with the bolt which then assumes its position locking the steering shaft. As soon as the retaining lever is retracted, it presses a blocking or retaining member, which is under spring prestress, into a key-insertion slot of the lock cylinder. When the retaining lever is retracted completely, the resiliently prestressed member is automatically moved back out of the key-insertion slot. The key can thus be inserted without friction into the insertion slot of the lock cylinder, in order to release the steering-column lock. |
