Apparatus for cutting, in particular, polystyrene, having an electrically heatable wire (1) stretched chord-like on a bow (2), the bow being pivotable on a supporting plate (7) for the parts to be cut about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the supporting plate and being attached with adjustability of the distance of the wire from the supporting plate in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the supporting plate. The distance adjustability of the wire is preferably achieved by pivotability of the bow about an axis parallel to the plane of the supporting surface. <IMAGE>
