A coal-water slurry comprises: (a) a coal powder of which 71 to 85 percent by weight are coal particles of particle sizes of 74 mu or smaller, and which, moreover, has a particle size distribution such that, when said distribution is represented on a Rosin-Rammler chart, the gradient (in terms of the value of tan alpha ) of the straight line joining two points respectively corresponding to the quantity (percent by weight) of particles of particle sizes less than 44 mu and to the quantity (percent by weight) of particles of particle sizes less than 74 mu is 0.4 to 0.9; (b) at least one species of a specific surfactant; and (c) water. |
