Warning device for a vehicle, in particular for a motor vehicle, which supplies a signal, which can be seen by anyone, at a travel speed which is above a specific speed threshold. Slider tracks (6, 7) are integrated in a tachometer (3A) as the signal generator and are sensed as ohmic resistances by a slider (8) coupled to the tacho indicator and together with the slider form switching elements of a circuit to which lamps (18, 19) of a display unit (2) are also assigned.
