A contact arrangement (1) is described which permits the automatic opening of a moving contact member (5), with a current limiting effect, in the event of high currents suddenly occurring. To this end, a lever arrangement, which comprises two bell-crank systems, is provided between the moving contact member (5) and a support (3). The first bell-crank system consists of a bent lever arm (12) of the moving contact member (5) and of a lever (14) which is a component of a further bell-crank system. The latter consists of the lever (14) which is connected to the bent lever arm (12) and of a lever (15) which is connected in a hinged manner to the support (3). A contact force spring engages on the bell-crank hinge bolt (16) of the second bell-crank system (14, 15). During dynamic contact opening, the first bell-crank system increasingly approaches the extended position, while the second bell-crank system becomes increasingly far from the extended position. In the limit position, the extended position of the first bell-crank system is exceeded and, under the influence of the contact force spring, the contact members assume a stable switched-off position with a large opening angle. The described contact arrangement is suitable for single-interrupting and double-interrupting low-voltage protection circuit breakers. <IMAGE>
