A conveyor belt (1) made of elastomeric material having embedded therein a longitudinally extending load carrying insert (2) and transversely extending cord bunches (3). The cord bunches (3) are spaced relative to one another in the longitudinal direction of the belt (1) and prevent any split in the belt (1) extending longitudinally along the length of the belt (1). Each cord (4) of a cord bunch (3) is formed from a plurality of twisted yarns (12) which are spaced apart to present an undulating surface thereby facilitating the penetration of the elastomeric material of the belt into the interstices between the yarns (12) and improving the anchorage of the cord (4) in the belt. The yarns (12) preferably have a high degree of twist so that the cords (4) are extensible to allow troughing of the belt (1) when carrying material. <IMAGE> |
