Olefins are catalytically ammoxidized to the corresponding unsaturated nitriles at an elevated temperature in the vapor phase. The catalyst used has a composition of the formula: MoaBibPbcTldXe AfBgOh wherein Mo is molybdenum, Bi is bismuth, Pb is lead, Tl is thallium, X is at least one element selected from phosphorus, arsenic and antimony, A is an alkali metal, B is at least one element selected from nickel, cobalt and tungsten, O is oxygen, and a = 10, b = 0.1 - 10, c = 0.1 - 10, d = 0.01 - 1, e = 0 - 10, f = 0 - 1, g = 0 - 10 and h = 3.15 - 112. |
