METHOD FOR CUTTING OPTICAL FIBER

The appts. for cutting glass fiber comprises stationary fiber holders (4,5) & a leaf spring(9) & a spring supporter(10). The fiber on the spring supporter is moved upward till the cutter(6) makes an infinitesimal crack on the fiber. The cutter(6) is removed by link devices & the rod(11) deforms the leaf spring(9) which gives deformation & tension to the fiber(3). The conventional appts. cuts the uncoated fiber(3). If the cutting point is near the coated part, the curvature of fiber is not constant by the coating thickness. To get a precise cutting section the appts. cuts the fiber(3) which is coated at least by 1st coating(2).
