PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of gaps between the long sides and short sides of a mold in the initial period of casting stages and to prevent breakout surely by pressing the long sides of the molds in the approaching direction by pressing means. CONSTITUTION:A mold frame 26 is provided on the outer side part of a body 25 of a mold device, and hydraulic cylinders 27, 28 which press the rear parts of a long side cooling box 2 on the front edge side are provided to the frame 26. While short side copper plates 8, 9 of the mold are not thermally expanded in the initial period of casting stages, the box 2 is pressed to the direction of a long side cooling box 1 on the succeeding edge side by the force corresponding to static iron pressure to obviate the formation of gaps, whereby the breakout occuring in the penetration of the molten metal into the gaps is prevented. Further when the plates 8, 9 are thermally expanded after the completion of the charging of the molten metal or the like, the pressing of the cylindres 27, 28 is released and soft clamping mechanisms are actuated. |
