PURPOSE:To improve the capacity and life, etc. of an electrode plate by adding proper sulfuric acid to lead powder or fine powder material of lead oxide, etc. and by granulating and filling them into a coarse braided glass tube. CONSTITUTION:A fine powder material of lead oxide of some 1-10mu containing 25% of metal lead powder is mixed with dilute sulfuric acid, and the mixture is granulated into grains with a diameter of 0.1-3.0mm. by a granulating machine. The lead grains thus produced are next filled in gaps 4 between a coarse braided glass tube 8 and lattice core metals 2 made of lead or lead alloy. Since the size of lead grains is large in such an electrode plate, the peeling quantity of an active material is small, and as a result the life performance is improved. In addition, since the mesh of the tube is coarse, the infiltration of an electrolyte into the electrode plate is improved, and furthermore the electrolyte easily infiltrates into the inside of the electrode plate through gaps among grains, thereby the utilization factor of the active material is improved. Particularly, this effect is greater at a higher rate discharge where the diffusion of the electrolyte controls the capacity. |
