PURPOSE:To enable stable lighting without being affected by a moving streak by lighting a lamp whose primary component is neon beyond the high frequency limiting current that corresponds to its sealing pressure. CONSTITUTION:A lamp in which a mixed gas composed of 99 volume % of neon and the remaining 1% of any of argon, krypton and xenon is sealed in the glass tube for a discharge lamp by 1.5-15 Torr allows its limiting current to be lowered as compared with a lamp composed of neon only. As a result, if a Pening effect is used, it was elucidated that stable discharge without a moving streak is enabled when the lamp lights beyond the limiting current of neon only. In this case, when the lighting frequency is low, it is assumed that the variation of electron density occurs and the limiting current is varied. The lower limit of this frequency is not clear, but the limiting current is not varied at least beyond 5kHz that is the experimental range of inventors. |
