In a rotation-hoop knife splitting machine for splitting sheet-like material, there are in the region (21) of the splitting work two rotation-hoop knife portions (30, 31) which bear against one another and which are moved oppositely to one another. The cutting edges (34, 36) of the two rotation-hoop knife portions (30, 31) are formed between a phase (35, 37) generated by one-sided grinding and the surface (32, 33) bearing against the other rotation-hoop knife portion. In particular, there are two endless rotation-hoop knives (1, 2) which form the two rotation-hoop knife portions (30, 31). Because of the opposite movement of the two rotation-hoop knife portions (30, 31), a lateral drift of the material (26) to be split can be prevented completely or substantially. <IMAGE>
