A number of electrodes on a patient transmit medical condition information through a local monitor which includes multiplexing and digitising circuits. The digitised data enters a memory which also receives ambient air pollution and noise data from additional probes. Keyboards available to the Doctor and patient allow message and medical information to be entered in the memory. An integration memory stores data for the previous 60 minutes and allows operation in one of two modes for presentation of present or past data. A modem permits transmission of information from the monitoring installation to a central monitor receiving data from a number of patients. The patients can be home or hospital based. The central monitor contains memories to allow presentation of present or past data and also to signal alarm conditions.
