The mechanism for loading bulk material into a ships hold comprises a jib structure (1) containing a longitudinally extendable (chain drive 12,13, support rollers 10,11) outrigger (9), and a driven (16) endless belt (15) passing around rollers (16,19,21,20) in the jib and rollers (17,18) in the outrigger such that the lower belt part forms a loop (17-19). In all positions of the outrigger, the upper belt part (15') is supported by rollers (22) in the outrigger and rollers (26) carried (23) in the jib. The latter rollers are carried by swivelable arms which are (air) spring-loaded for roller (26) downwards, the belt (15') support being taken over by the collars (22) (and vice versa).
