<p>PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of character cutout, by providing a comparator comparing the continuous length of a vertical projection of characters in one line with a reference value of the character width, and selecting an isolated pattern pickup processing for the cutout processing in response to the output of comparison. CONSTITUTION:A vertical projection component is picked up from a picture data SV for one line of characters' share at a projection detection circuit 50 and fed to a comparator 51. The comparator 51 compares the length of the vertical projection with a reference value W0, and when lp<=W0, a cutout instruction signal CC is given to a cutout controller 52. When lp>W0, an isolated pattern pickup instruction signal CI is fed to an isolated pattern pickup controller 53. A picture data memory 54 picks up a character, when the cutout is impossible, as an isolated pattern and stored in a rejection memory 56, and it is used for the next recognition and correction. Thus, since characters impossible for cutout are cut out and recognized as isolated characters, accurate character cutout is performed without reducing the speed.</p> |
