PURPOSE:To easily and perfectly perform descaling and to obtain a steel material having excellent surface properties, by spraying highly pressurized water or compressed air on the material while the material is deformed between rolling rolls. CONSTITUTION:Side descaling devices 8 are provided to both sides of a billet 2 between an upper roll 5 and a lower roll 6 of a rolling mill 3 to spray highly pressurized water or compressed air or both on the free surface of the billet 2 while the billet 2 bitten by the rolls 5 and 6 is defomred. Hereupon, since scales 4 are compressively strained to be kept in a cracked state, the scales 4 are satisfactorily removed. By this method, descaling is perfectly performed, and a billet having excellent surface properties is obtained. |
