1-Thienyl- and 1-furyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-3-benzazepines of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which R denotes a hydrogen atom, a C1-5-alkyl, C3-C5 alkenyl or C1-5-alkanoyl radical, a benzyl, phenethyl or hydroxyethyl group, R1 denotes a hydrogen or halogen atom, a trifluoromethyl, methylthio, trifluoromethylthio, methyl or methoxy group, R2 and R3 denote hydrogen atoms, C1-5-alkyl or C2-5-alkanoyl radicals, or, together, denote a methylene or ethylene group, R4 denotes a hydrogen or halogen atom, a cyanomethyl, methyl or carbomethoxy group, and X denotes an oxygen or sulphur atom, and their salts with acids and quaternary ammonium salts. The compounds lower blood pressure and reduce pulse rate, and are active against Parkinson's disease.
