PURPOSE:To read automatically seal impression for each bill, by providing a means setting a seal impression reading range with a character printed on the bill, etc. CONSTITUTION:A seal impression 20 and a code setting the reading range of this seal impression are printed on a bill 1. The bill 1 is scanned toward B direction (Y direction) at a beam scanner 2 while being carried toward A(X) direction. When the bill is carried, a code reading section 10 read a seal impression reading range set code and sets the reading range to a reading range set section 11. A signal from a photodetector section 3 passes through an A/D conversion section 4 and is given to a seal impression cutout section 5. The section 5 is driven relating to each address corresponding to the X and Y directions and the seal impression data is stored in a picture memory section 6. Thus, even if several kinds of bills are mixed, the seal impression is read correctly. |
