The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of foundry cores and moulds. To that end a mixture comprising a granular filler such as sand, a synthetic resin which cures under the influence of an acid and a ketone peroxide desensitized with one or more specific dialkyl esters of dicarboxylic acids is formed into a foundry core or mould and treated with SO2. The dialkyl ester should have the formula …… where… n = 1-7 and… R1 and R2 = a branched or non-branched alkyl group having 3 to 5 carbon atoms.
