1,055,680. Liquefaction of gas mixtures. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. Sept. 27, 1965 [Sept. 30, 1964], No. 40980/65. Heading F4P. In liquefying a gas mixture, e.g. air by compressing at 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), removing readily condensible impurities, e.g. water and carbon dioxide in absorbers 8, liquefying in the condensation space of a cold gas refrigerator 10 and expanding at a throttle valve 12 into a storage container 13 with the formation of nitrogen-rich vapour, the latter is condensed within the container 13 by heat exchange with a portion of liquid withdrawn from the container through a line 14, expanded in a throttle valve 16 and exhausted through the heat exchanger coil 17 in the vapour space of the container and from thence through a line exhaust 18. The latter passes through a heat exchanger 6 traversed by feed air. In a modification preliminary cooling of compressed feed air is effected in switchable regenerators 30, 31, 32, Fig. 2 (not shown), and of the air leaving the cold end of the onstream regenerator 80% is returned through the regenerator being cooled and is thereafter recorded in refrigerators 9, 35 and added to 10% of the cold feed air and fed to the condenser space of the cold gas refrigerator 10 whilst the remaining 10% of cold feed air is added to the cold gas mixture in exhaust line 18 to effect purging of the remaining regenerator. |
