A DC linear motor having a permanent magnet arrangement which has a ferromagnetic return path, and having a multi-strand winding, which are movable linearly with respect to one another, especially for drives in data technology. The winding consists of a plurality of coils which follow one another in the movement direction, have current applied to them in a cyclic sequence, and are in each case laid around a pole of at least one slotted flux guide part, which, together with the permanent magnet arrangement, forms an essentially flat air gap, without any overlap, with a coil axis which is at right angles to the movement direction. The ratio of the coil pitch to the magnet pitch is 2:3. In order to render interfering reluctance forces ineffective, ferromagnetic auxiliary poles are fitted in the region of the sides of the end poles in the movement direction. <IMAGE>
