A fuel injection device is proposed on which a cam disc (15) in a pump chamber (10) is provided for the actuation of a pump piston (14) for fuel metering. At the same time the cam disc (15) can be adjusted by means of an injection adjusting piston (20), which is acted upon by a pressure (P2) derived from the pressure (P1) prevailing in the pump chamber, in such a way that the start of fuel delivery is varied. A valve which can be actuated as a function of an electronic control instrument (19) at the same time serves to adjust the pressure (P2) acting on the injection adjustment piston (20). The valve is designed as a baffle plate valve (25) on which the pressure coming from the pump chamber (10) is fed by way of a baffle plate (28) to the injection adjustment piston (20) in such a way that pressure peaks on the injection adjustment piston (20), which are caused by the reaction of the pressure stroke on the cam disc (15), lead to closure of the baffle plate. In this way the flexibility of the injection adjustment piston and hence the scatter in the fuel metering quantity is reduced. <IMAGE>
