PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance useful as an intermediate raw material of agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc., easily, in short steps, by using 3-bromoacetophenone which is available at a relatively low cost, as a raw material, and reacting the compound with 2-chloro-4-trichloromethylphenol in the presence of copper. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is prepared by reacting 3-bromoacetophenone with 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenol or its alkali metal salt in an inert solvent, preferably pyridine or N,N-dimethyl-4-amino-pyridine, in the presence of copper and/or a copper compound at 60-170 deg.C, preferably 80-140 deg.C. The amount of 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenol or its alkali metal salt is preferably 0.65-1.25mol per 1mol of 3-bromoacetophenone. |
