NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound expressed by formula 1 (R is lower alkanoyl, lower alkoxylcarbonyl, furoyl, lower alkanesulfonyl, benzoyl which may have 1-3 substituent groups, e.g. lower alkyl, lower alkoxyl or halogen, on the phenyl ring, etc.; A is lower alkylene) and a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:6-[4-(3,4,5-Trimethoxybenzoyl)-1-piperazinylacetyl]-3,4-dihydr ocarbostyril. USE:A cardiotonic agent for treating heart diseases, e.g. congestive failure, mitral valvular affection, atrial fibrillation, flutter or paroxysmal auricular tachycardia, having improved positive inotropic action and increasing action on the coronary blood stream with very weak increasing action on heart rates. PROCESS:3,4-Dihydrocarbostyril expressed by formula 2 is reacted with a compound expressed by formula 3 (X and X' are halogen), and the resultant compound expressed by formula 4 is further reacted with a piperazine derivative expressed by formula 5 to afford the compound expressed by formula 1. |
