A single reel magnetic tape cartridge contains a reel on which a length of tape is wound with its free end connected to a leader block 18. The leader block 18 has a coupling slot comprising an entrance neck 24, a shank passage 19 and a tapered socket 28, 21. The pick-up arm 50 of a tape threading device comprises a shank 23 and tapered head 27. The arm 50 is engaged with the slot by first relatively moving the shank 23 laterally through the neck 24 of the slot to position the head 27 below the entrance of the socket 28, 21 and then secondly by relatively moving the arm 50 axially to engage the head in the socket.
