IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO BOILERS

A shell boiler comprising a furnace tube (15) within the steam and or water space (11) of the boiler and a plurality of smoke tubes characterised in that the boiler is provided with secondary feed means (61, 26a, 34) to feed a secondary fuel into the furnace tube (15) at a quiescent zone where the products of combustion have a minimum velocity and usually adjacent a front end (19) of the furnace tube (15). The secondary fuel is preferably hospital ward, or pathological waste. Solid primary fuel may be fed to a furnace grate (16) in the furnace tube (15) and there may be means (50) to separate fine particles of product fuel from the remainder of the solid fuel and feed the fine particles with the secondary fuel into the furnace tube (15).
