<p>A novel heating device is provided herein. It has a drive member rotated by the power source, and a plurality of discs secured to the drive member, the discs being rotated by the drive member. A shell member encloses the discs, the shell member having a base member and a plurality of disc sections disposed substantially normally from the base member, each of the disc sections enclosing a portion of one of the discs, the disc sections being adjacently spaced along the base member to define an air space between each adjacent pair of disc sections, the shell member being stationary and each of the disc sections having an interior surface and an exterior surface, the shell member providing for disc oil spaces between the interior surfaces of the disc sections and the discs. Oil is adapted to circulate within the disc oil spaces between the rotating discs and the disc sections of the stationary shell member, whereby the oil becomes heated due to friction, the heated oil transferring heat to the shell member such that the exterior surface of the disc sections of the shell member becomes heated. The utilization of a disc structure, rather than a cylindrical structure, enhances heating efficiency by providing a greater heated surface area in contact with the air flow. Input energy efficiency in relation to heat output is substantially increased.</p> |
