PURPOSE:To obtain a charging device having simple constitution and prevented from uneven charging by charging an element to be charged using an electric field curtain. CONSTITUTION:An electric field curtain sheet 2 is obtained by setting up electrodes 2a, 2b in parallel between a dielectric layer 2c consisting of glass having 100mu thickness and an insulating layer 2d and used as the electric field curtain when AC corona is discharged at the application of AC power supply voltage 3 between the electrodes. The power supply 3 generates AC corona discharged on the surface of the dielectric layer 2c of the sheet 2, so that bipolar ion space having high density is formed between the sheet 2 and an opposed electrode 4. An electric field is formed between the sheet 2 and the electrode 4 by power supplies 5, 6 and only negative ions are injected to the side of the electrode 4. When the element 1 to be charged passes between the sheet 2 and the electrode 4, the negative ions collide with the sheet 2 and the sheet 2 is negatively charged. In case of positive charge, the power supplies 5, 6 are reversely connected. |
