Drying assembly for the multi-cylinder dryer in a paper machine, in which use is made of a single-wire draw. The wire loop 12 in the single wire draw, outside which the said drying cylinders 11 remain, is made to touch a plurality of drying cylinders in a covering sector a of essentially more than 180 degrees. In the process the web W that is to be dried remains between the drying wire 12 and the heated cylinder surface of the drying cylinders 11. In the drying assembly in the intermediate spaces between succeeding drying cylinders 11, suction turning rolls 20 have been arranged, which are situated inside the drying wire loop 12 and over which the drying wire 12 runs in the said drying sector a, so that the web W is outermost. The intermediate spaces ko between the circumferences of the drying cylinders 11 and the narrow gaps between the drying cylinders 11 and the circumferences of the suction turning rolls 20 are minimised. The diameters Do of the drying cylinders 11 and the diameters D1 of the suction turning rolls 20 are selected so that the said covering sectors of the drying wire 12 and the web W are within the range 210 degrees < a < 270 degrees, most suitably within the range 240 degrees < a < 260 degrees. The suction turning rolls 20 comprise suction rolls with axial air seals, the free sectors b of which are arranged into a blowing sector, the blowing Eout from which is used to ventilate pockets T that are formed in the intermediate spaces of the drying cylinders 11. <IMAGE>
