PURPOSE:To improve greatly the humidity resistance of a polarizing film, by dipping a transparent macromolecular film in a polarization treating liquid which contains a specific metallic iodine compound and has its pH controlled at 7 by the acid and then giving a uniaxial extension to the film. CONSTITUTION:A PVA film 51 is dipped in a polarization treating tank 53 which contains FeI2, etc. and has its pH controlled at 7 by sulfuric acid, etc. Thus a uniaxial extension of 3-5times is given to the film 51 between A and B. The film 51 is then dipped in a boric acid treating tank 54, washed with water in a washing tank 55 and then dried in a drying oven 56 at 40-70 deg.C. Thus a polarizing film 52 subjected to a treatment for humidity resistance is taken up. For such film 52, the rod-shaped polyiodine molecules 43 are adsorbed into PVA42 of a spiral molecule chain, and a metallic atom 44 like Fe, etc. is connected to the molecule 43 as well as to a hydroxyl group of the PVA42 to form a macromolecular complex. As a result, the humidity resistance is improved greatly. |
