In a foam extrusion appts. which the orifice(133) of a die(42) can be adjusted externally of a vacuum chamber(10) & a closure(40), the closure includes an adapter pipe(37) through which the extrudate passes from the extruder to the die(42). Between the extruder & the die or an adapter plate(118), the adapter pipe(37) is provided with an insulating jacket(125) spaced from the exterior of the tube by a spirally wound wire(127). The jacket is provided with an inlet fitting or elbow(130) & an outlet fitting(131). A heat exchange medium is circulated through the jacket such as hot oil or water to maintain the extrudate in the pipe(37) at the desired temp.
