PURPOSE:To prevent any reduction of open-circuit voltage which might be caused due to preservation by using an active carbon, the Methylene-Blue decoloring power of which is in a specified range, in a positive electrode which principally consists of active carbon, manganese dioxide and a conductive member and contains a water-repellent binding agent. CONSTITUTION:An air-zinc battery is prepared by using oxygen contained in air as a positive active material, and using zinc for a negative electrode. The positive electrode of such a battery is made by adding polytetrafluoroethylene used as a water-repellent member to mixture consisting of 40pts.wt. manganese dioxide, 40pts.wt. active carbon having a Methylene-Blue decoloring power of 100-250ml, and 20pts.wt. a graphite, and applying thus prepared mixture to a current collecting body before the current collecting body coated with the mixture is dried. As a result, by appropriately selecting Methylene-Blue decoloring power which is an indication of the activity of active carbon, any reduction of open-circuit voltage can be prevented without losing the ability of manganese dioxide. |
