PURPOSE:To improve the S/N margin, by recording a PCM signal after MFM modulation and conversion to a bipolar code to reduce the amplitude equalization quantity to the frequency of a reproduced signal in a reproducing system. CONSTITUTION:A signal b' subjected MFM modulation in a modulator 1 is outputted on a basis of serial data having a bit cycle T of a PCM signal inputted to an input terminal 10, and this signal b' is supplied to a bipolar encoder 2 and is converted to a bipolar signal c' and is recorded on a magnetic recording medium 100 by a magnetic head 200. A signal reproduced from the magnetic recording medium 100 has the waveform equalized by a reproducing equalizer 5. Transmission characteristics from the modulator 1 to the output of the reproducing equalizer 5 are represented by two differential characteristics and one band limiting characteristic. That is, characteristics are so given that edges E1, E2- of the recorded MFM signal b' correspond to zero-crossing points Z1, Z2- of an output e' from the reproducing equalizer 5. |
