<p>A method for the biological treatment of liquids comprises the use of a series of beds of open porous materials, e.g. polyether foam, impregnated with bacteria, through which the liquid is allowed to trickle under gravity. A series of such slabs placed one above the other is used, with the vertical space between slabs sufficient to enable the liquid droplets to absorb air, or gas, to compensate for that consumed in the bacterial action in the slab above. Used for the conversion of ammoniacal liquors to nitrates using autotrophic bacteria.</p> |
