The keys (1) are interconnected by flexible connectors (2) to form a first mat. A second mat (4) disposed under the first consists partly of flexible spacing elements (5) which lie under the flexible connectors and partly of switching devices. The flexible connectors produce a smaller return force than the spacing elements. The second mat has a matrix of grooves separated by the spacing elements, each groove having a photoemitting device at one end and a photosensitive device connected to an adapted logic circuit at the other end. The keyboard realises the required functions of conversion acquital and coding at a lower fabrication cost than classical keyboards. Pref. four spacer members are compressed when a partic. key is activated.
