A set-up device for a workhead of a machine tool, e.g. the boring head (10) of a coordinate boring mill, is specified which has a pressure-medium cylinder (34), the output part of which acts on the workhead or a slide (22) carrying it. An optical sensor (44), together with a line rule (42), determines the actual position of the workhead (10) along the set-up coordinates, and the output signal from the sensor (44) is used by a control circuit (56) to control the admission of pressure medium to the hydraulic cylinder (34) in such a way that the hydraulic cylinder (34) is hydraulically locked when the desired position is reached. A clamping cylinder (46) is provided for each of the coordinates for the additional hydraulic locking of the workhead (10) in the desired position. The output part of the clamping cylinder (46) acts on the corresponding running rail (24) via a pressure piece. The supply of pressure medium to the clamping cylinder (46) is controlled via the same servo valve (48) via which the displacing hydraulic cylinder (34) is controlled. <IMAGE>
