The present invention relates to a meat-cutting or sawing device and aims to achieve clean cut surfaces without limitation of the maximum length of the product to be cut. To this end, the invention proposes that, in the event of use of a continuous separating band, this is guided forwards and backwards immediately adjacently in the separating zone. The separating band is preferably guided in a tension-free manner at both ends of the separating zone. Because of the directly adjacent nature of the forward and backward running separating band, the transverse forces with regard to the product to be cut are virtually eliminated, so that the meat is not tumbled.
