Hose pumps have proved very successful for the delivery of small, metered quantities of liquid, especially for the delivery of ink in ink jet printers, a driven smoothing roller rolling on a part of a feed hose in the required direction for delivery of liquid. The smoothing roller for this purpose can be driven by a motor via a gear mechanism. The object of the invention is to create a hose pump having a low overall height and functioning with little noise. According to the invention the smoothing roller (25) performs a reciprocating movement in such a way that it describes differing path curves on the forward and return stroke. In so doing the smoothing roller (25) during the forward stroke is in pressure contact with the delivery hose, whereas at the reversal point it lifts off from this and on the return stroke does not exert any pressure on the liquid, for example on the ink in the delivery hose. The smoothing roller (25) is advantageously pivotally mounted on a swivel lever (21). <IMAGE>
