The process for preparing a molten bath in flame descaling comprises igniting a mixture of fuel gas and oxygen. A steel wire is heated by the resulting flame to a temperature of 900-1450 DEG C, and the heated steel wire is introduced discontinuously and progressively into a stream of cutting oxygen to form drops of molten wire metal. The drops formed are transferred by the stream of cutting oxygen to the surface of the metal to be descaled. A device for carrying out one of the embodiments of the process is proposed. The device for carrying out the process for preparing a molten bath in flame descaling comprises a housing (1), ducts (7 and 16) extending in the housing (1), in the peripheral region thereof, for feeding fuel gas and oxygen respectively, an additional duct (4) formed in the central region of the housing (1) for feeding fuel gas, a duct (2), which is provided in the housing (1) and accommodated coaxially to the additional duct (4) for feeding fuel gas, for feeding a steel wire (3), and a duct (5), which is formed in the housing (1) and is accommodated in the interspace between the duct (6) for the oxygen feed and the additional duct (4) for the fuel gas feed, for feeding cutting oxygen.
