<p>A hinge device for a break-open type firearm comprises two pairs of arcuate ridges (9, 10) on the breech (3) slidably received in complementary grooves (6, 7) formed in parallel side walls (5) of a receiver (4). One pair (6, 9) of ridges and complementary grooves is located forwardly of the hinge axis (8), with one ridge (6) and its associated groove (9) on each side of the bridge, and the other pair (7, 10) of the ridges and complementary grooves is located rearwardly of the hinge axis. In the closed position of the firearm, the ridges and grooves are generally upright, so that their flanks or side walls include a large angle with the line of action of the recoil forces.</p> |
