Aluminium tubes carrying heavy currents - uses copper sleeve inside bushes and bronze strips permitting expansion at each joint

The system uses connectors at joints between sections of the tube, permitting expansion to take place. A gap is left between the ends of the tube sections, and a copper bush (4) is inserted into each end, leaving the same gap between the bushes. A copper inner sleeve (5) is inserted into both bushes, bridging the gap. Both the outside surfaces of the bushes and the sleeve incorporate grooves into which are fitted bronze strips (2,3) permitting expansion while maintaining good contact. The inside surfaces of the bushes carry a coating of silver or other suitable noble metal. PS.
