A multiple circuit electrical-pressure medium brake system is proposed in which the drive section operates electrically and the working section pneumatically or hydraulically. A foot-operated electrical dual circuit signal transmitter (28) and parallel to this a manually operated electrical signal transmitter (37) are used to trigger various electromagnets (31, 32, 35, 36, 40, 41), which operate valves (12, 22, 26, brake force regulator 16), which in their open position allow brake pressure medium to pass to the brake cylinders (13, 14, 17, 18, 23, 24) or to other consuming units. In addition load sensors and/or wheel speed sensors can also be used. It is also possible to superimpose an external control on the electrical signal transmitters operable by the vehicle driver or to replace these by an external control. In this way automatic driving of the vehicle can be produced. Compressed air is preferably used as pressure medium as is usual for pneumatic brake systems of commercial vehicles. <IMAGE>
