The invention relates to a gem, in particular for producing items of jewellery and jewellery in general. Such a gem consists of at least two basic shape gems (A and B), the outer gem (B) of which is of hollow construction for receiving and securely fastening at least part of the inner gem (A). The two basic shape gems (A and B) are joined to one another by cement. The gem (B) advantageously consists of two parts (B1 and B2) whose recesses are of complementary construction for receiving the first gem, at least one of the parts (B1 and B2) being provided with openings (B3).
