PURPOSE:To reduce the data transmitting amount, by performing two-dimensional thinning of pictures to areas where a little deterioration of the picture quality is insignificant and, at the same time, by detecting blank in character lines, etc., and transmitting them through a specific code. CONSTITUTION:An inputted original picture 200 is successively scanned 201 and supplied to a control code reading circuit 202 and a density converting circuit 203. The reading circuit 202 reads marks 5, 5', and 5'', namely, control codes written in a control column, and obtains density conversion information. The density converting circuit 203 performs density conversion processing on the picture signal of the scanning section 201 based on the density conversion information of the reading circuit 202, namely, the reduction ratio. Moreover, a blank line controlling circuit 204 receives picture signals which have been converted in density and those which are not converted in density from the density converting circuit 203 under a mixed condition and, at the same time, detects blank lines based on the output signal of the reading circuit 202. |
