A container comprises a tubular plastics body 18 and a lid which has a main portion 10 which extends across the mouth of the body 18 and an upstanding plastics wall 12 which fits closely within the body mouth and is sealed thereto, the wall 12 having an outturned plastics flange 14 which is turned down around an outwardly projecting rim 22 at the body mouth. The rim may comprise a thickening (36, Figure 5) of the body mouth, or a flange 22 on which is superimposed the flange 14 of the lid, the two flanges 14, 22 being simultaneously turned down to lie against the body 18. The lid may include an aluminium foil layer, at least in the upstanding wall 12, to aid induction welding, and preferably over its entire area to provide barrier properties. A line of weakening may be provided in the lid to facilitate opening. In alternative methods, the lid may be heat-sealed, ultrasonically-welded, spin-welded, or bonded using adhesive or solvent to the body. <IMAGE> |
