Apparatus for supporting disabled persons

Apparatus forming part of or secured to a wheelchair for lifting and supporting a disabled person whilst being moved to or from the wheelchair, the apparatus including a seat and backrest assembly 12 vertically movable relative to a frame 10, by means of a bag or bellows 11. The seat 16 is provided with hinged flank panels 17 which are normally releasably retained in positions extending upwards from the sides of the seat, and which can be lowered to rest on the brim of a bath 18 or on a bed to serve as lateral extensions of the seat 16 for transfer of the person. The backrest 15 has backrest extension means 27 which provides a lateral extension of the backrest. The means 27 may be relocatable to serve as a headrest or armrest and may engage one flank panel. Stay means 28 is provided to connect the frame 10 with a further similar frame or with the frame of a bed.
